Carry On, Mr. Bowditch by Jean Lee Latham Thematic Novel Study is an age-appropriate biographical novel of Nathaniel Bowditch, focused on courage and determination. Bowditch was an early American mathematician. Growing up in a family with little, he worked to become a memorable ocean navigator. Bowditch is often credited as the founder of modern maritime navigation. Additionally, he wrote The New American Practical Navigator, first published in 1802. It is still carried on board every commissioned U.S. Naval vessel.
There are 13 projects and activities included and they require limited supplies and encourage independence and practical application of age-appropriate skills. Homeschool students are encouraged to plan and develop their thoughts and can easily be guided by an adult or sibling.
